I am an emerging artist based in Christchurch, New Zealand. I have always been interested in creating artwork that portrays ideas and thoughts through a range of both two-dimensional and three-dimensional media, never being confined to a single page. Printmaking has always been something that I have gravitated towards with its hands-on approach, and I enjoy exploring all its capabilities and what it offers.
After completing my Bachelor of Design (Visual Arts), I continued to study and finished my Masters of Arts in Arts Therapy in 2020. There has always been a part of me that enjoyed working with people (especially neurodiverse people). I wanted to find a career that was able to mix my two passions for arts and helping people.
Arts therapy or arts psychotherapy is an emerging field in New Zealand. It uses creative modalities, including visual arts-making, drama, and dance/movement within a therapeutic relationship to improve and inform physical, mental and emotional well-being. It is called "arts therapy" rather than "art therapy" because of the different arts used to help people eg. dance, drama, art and creative writing. Arts therapy differs from traditional arts-making or performance in that the emphasis is on the process of creating and making meaning rather than on the end product. The therapist and client/s develop a therapeutic relationship with clear boundaries, treatment plans and outcomes. The arts themselves are considered to have healing functions that arts therapists seek to harness to assist their clients in achieving change.
